More Weddings!!

So, we had another wedding at our church, which is kind of unusual since our church only has about 50 members. Paul, a marine, married Natsuki, a local Japanese girl. They are such a sweet couple! She's such a beautiful girl too... this is a picture of her dad walking her down the aisle...

The wedding was really sweet... Paul had that same smile on his face the entire day!

And I made the cake as well... it's probably my favorite one so far. All of the roses are made out of edible gum paste. The bride and groom loved it though, which is all that matters to me! :)

Isn't My Doggie Cute?!?

One night, I gave Koshi the empty potato chip bag because I thought she would enjoy licking all the salt off the inside. She loved it! Apparently, she felt the need to stick her entire head inside the bag...

Actually, just after I took this picture, she stood up and starting walking around with the bag on her head... it was hilarious!! Unfortunately, the card in my camera was full and I didn't get a picture. She freaked out though when the edge of the bag hit the coffee table and made a loud noise, so she quickly removed the bag. My doggie is so adorable!! :) Plus she's keeping me great company while Chris is gone... 4 weeks down, 6 more to go!!

Flea Market Extravaganza!!

A few weeks ago, the cheerleaders had a flea market for a fundraiser. We basically asked for donations, went and picked them up from people's houses, organized and loaded them all into vehicles and then sold them at the bi-weekly flea market. It's generally all Americans selling their stuff at these flea markets, but it's entirely the Japanese who shop at them. Here's a pic of our 4 vans full of stuff, although this picture doesn't really show just how much stuff we had...
When they open the gates at 7:00am, the Japanese stampede in like a herd of very hungry buffalo (you'd better get out of their way fast!) It's really quite an experience! The entire time, they're asking you how much things are, and you're trying to remember how to say 300 yen as fast as you can in Japanese. Here's a picture of our huge pile of clothes before the flea market started....
And here's a picture of about 20 people going through the clothes at the same time... they start at about $1 each and we end the flea market selling the clothes for about 10 cents each. We even had people buying used bras... echk!
Here are the cheerleaders putting on a show for all the people waiting to get in (of course they're not working much!) Anyways, it was a very long morning, but they whole experience lasts only about 5 hours and we made about $1300!!

Dog Attack!!

Ok, since I'm horrible at updating my blog, many of you know this story by now. So, I was walking Koshi one day like I normally do. We don't usually go very far down our street though because there are two houses that don't do a very good job of keeping their gates closed and their dogs come out to attack my dog.
To make a long story short, we accidentally went too far down the street, were noticed by both of these dogs, and they ran across the street after us in a parking lot. What was different about this day than most days is 1). both dogs came after us at the same time... it's usually one or the other and 2). the dog that is normally wearing a muzzle was not. So, both dogs were trying to attack/bite us from different sides and I was seriously "freaking out" for lack of a better term. I'm trying to act tough, yelling and stomping at the dogs, so they would leave us alone. As I went to stomp towards the bigger dog, the one without the muzzle bit me on the leg (I'm assuming pretty hard from the look of my bruise, but I don't remember feeling it at the time). So, here's a pic of the bruise about an hour after it happened...

So, I turned and kicked the dog in the face, as hard as I could and he ran away whimpering.
Ok, that's not really what I did, but in hindsight, it would have made me feel a lot better. I'm actually holding Koshi this whole time because I knew they were really trying to bite her and I can't imagine letting them get to my sweet little dog. So, what actually happened was that I still held Koshi in my arms and ran away from them as fast as I could (they followed us down the street a ways) and then cried the whole way home... :( This is a picture of the bruise the day after... my leg was a little swollen, but really my calf just looks HUGE in this picture! Of course this all happened when my husband is deployed (they say it always does!), so I ended up calling the medical clinic (hoping that there wasn't a chance the dog had rabies!) and then called the law office. The law office actually said I needed to report it to the police. So, within 30 minutes of my phone call, there was a cop car and 4 (yes 4!) officers at the "crime scene." Obviously, there is very little crime in Okinawa for this many officers to come out (in their defense, one was translating...). They took pictures, wrote up a detailed report, and told me to contact them again if my leg got any worse. They then contacted the families of the dogs and gave them a warning. The dog who didn't bite me is still out all the time, but I've yet to see the dog who bit me again... I think they maybe got rid of him. Anyways, I have to admit that this was probably the scariest thing that has ever happened to me!!!
