Flea Market Extravaganza!!
A few weeks ago, the cheerleaders had a flea market for a fundraiser. We basically asked for donations, went and picked them up from people's houses, organized and loaded them all into vehicles and then sold them at the bi-weekly flea market. It's generally all Americans selling their stuff at these flea markets, but it's entirely the Japanese who shop at them. Here's a pic of our 4 vans full of stuff, although this picture doesn't really show just how much stuff we had...
When they open the gates at 7:00am, the Japanese stampede in like a herd of very hungry buffalo (you'd better get out of their way fast!) It's really quite an experience! The entire time, they're asking you how much things are, and you're trying to remember how to say 300 yen as fast as you can in Japanese. Here's a picture of our huge pile of clothes before the flea market started....
And here's a picture of about 20 people going through the clothes at the same time... they start at about $1 each and we end the flea market selling the clothes for about 10 cents each. We even had people buying used bras... echk!
Here are the cheerleaders putting on a show for all the people waiting to get in (of course they're not working much!) Anyways, it was a very long morning, but they whole experience lasts only about 5 hours and we made about $1300!!
